Today's random encounter
Nov. 16th, 2014 10:30 pmToday's random encounter while out on a late evening walk was turning a corner to see a deer lit up in the eerie grey light of my torch. There was a moment when we just paused and looked at each other, both standing in the middle of the path, before it disappeared off into the misty night.
The surprise is the location, not far from where I last saw one in the middle of Fareham. I was walking through the middle of The Gillies, a local green space surrounded on all sides by housing. One would have thought that it'd be too urban for deer...

Daily photo meme 2014
May. 1st, 2014 08:31 pmToday's the first of May, which means it's once again six months until the start of NaBloPoMo. And like last year, it's also the start of a month of photos!
For anyone else who chooses to take part, here's the rules:
Anyway, the photo. Today's was taken while walking back from work, on a completely different and at times extremely muddy route north of the M27 that I've only walked maybe twice before. Along one quiet country lane, I happened to glance into the woods to my side and spotted this:

Tame rabbit and sleeping ducks
May. 15th, 2013 09:31 pmToday, I've got a pair of photos. This morning, on the way to work, I spotted an unusually tame rabbit that was quite content to sit there while I dug the camera out and moved closer for a better photo:

In the afternoon, on the way back from Sainsbury's I walked past these sleeping ducks. They woke up after I took the photo and sat there quietly quacking, but didn't move from that spot until a dog-walker came past:

Jan. 8th, 2012 09:12 pmI sometimes see the odd fox while out walking, usually in the countryside. Occassionally I'll spy one on the edge of a built-up area (like near Moulsecoomb station in Brighton). I don't think I've seen one right in the middle of town before, though...
I've just been out on a random evening stroll, and was walking along the main street back into the centre of town when a fox appeared from a junction in front of me. It ran towards me along the middle of the road, paused for a moment while we stared at each other, and then ran past and disappeared up a side street behind me.

Aug. 21st, 2006 06:29 pmIt's summer, right? Not spring?
So why did I see at least a dozen rabbits today?
I spent the quarter hour waiting for the train at Lewes watching a pair of rabbits bounce around one of the lines (the one leading to the non-existant platform 0), and then from the train I saw a field full of 'em.
Rather tame too - they didn't even blink as a train went past.
