Guess what? It's 8:47, as I type this, and I'm wide awake and have had breakfast. Normally during the holidays you're lucky to see me up before 10 am. The reason: what looks like the water company have just decided to make a nice hole in the pavement outside my house. And because it's tarmac, they're using a pnuematic drill. Which means that nobody's going to get any peace for the next ten minutes. Apparently they are allowed to start this sort of thing at 8:30 (which is when they started digging here).
