I really ought to hurry up with these write-ups - as it is, I'm going to have a fourth in-progress Zelda game soon to blog...

It... grieved us to do this to our patriarch... but we had no other course of action.

A weak spirit is no match for the might of the Gorons! Do you understand me, human? Then away with you!

I... I think I finally understand.
I understand what my dad meant when he told me I needed to be stronger, like you, Link...
He wasn't talking about strength, like lifting stuff. He was talking about being brave...

I don't know why I'm avoiding spoilers in the title, surely everyone knows the plot by now...

Link is coming to save us all! ...I can feel it!

Hmm... I don't suppose there's any nicer way to hunt these things, huh?

[livejournal.com profile] elemnar has requested a Zelda update, and in any case I'm well overdue posting them. I ought to finish at least one of the Zelda's I'm replaying before getting Breath of the Wild...

A sword wields no strength unless the hand that holds it has courage.

Do you remember what that spirit said? About how you had to match the power of the king of shadows? Could it really be so easy? Is this all there is to it? Eee hee hee!

Can you at least promise me this? No matter what happens on your journey, don't try to do anything... out of your league. Please.
Ilia

Oh, Ilia, you'd be amazed what Link can do... he's destined for much greater things than delivering a gift to Hyrule Castle.

Anyway, since last time much Plot has happened. I'd forgotten just how much plot Twilight Princess throws at you - Ilia and Colin have been captured by some Bulbins, the land has been covered in twilight, Link's been turned into a wolf and also been captured, met Midna, escaped, met Zelda, escaped some more, sneaked a sword and shield out of Ordon Village, restored the light spirit of Faron, and turned back into a human.

Oh, and I've discovered that Link's actually not a simple rancher but the hero chosen by the goddesses to save Hyrule. All that in an hour or so of gameplay.

Onwards to Plot! )

Tell me... Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?

It's a toss-up between this and Ocarina of Time as to which is my favourite - Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game I ever played, but in Twilight Princess everything just looked and felt *right*. When originally playing it I found myself at time I often found myself exploring just for the sake of it - the whole world is full of history and secrets to find. What where the ruins in Eldin Province for (no idea, but I found a hidden grotto in the field)? Is there anything down the gorge south of castle town (yes, once you have double hookshots)? Can I get up on to the parapet above the town gates (yes, kinda - and there’s a chest)? Does anything happen in the open-air theatre (no - but if you shoot all the Keese/whatever some rupees fall)? Can I cross to that bit in the edge of the desert (which isn’t even on the map)? The list just goes on and on, and at times I'd just ride around Hyrule Field to see if there was anything more to find.

Next up: onwards to Hyrule Castle!

Ocarina of Time has not been forgotten, and nor has Skyward Sword...

I arrived at work today to find this on my desk...

Having managed pretty much 100% completion in Twilight Princess (not finished Rollgoal yet) and Minish Cap (need to finish that dratted Cucco game), I'm now going through Ocarina of Time with the same intention.

I've lost count of the number of times I've played through it over the years, but I'm still finding hidden places and new tricks in it. Some really useful ones too - it turns out the Deku Nuts are ridiculously overpowered against the right sort of enemy (you can use one to clear a roomful of those bouncing bubbles inside Jabu-Jabu), and the spin attack works against enemies that normally zap you if you touch them, like the jellyfish.

I also managed to beat Dark Link using just the Master Sword, which is a first for me. Only used up 9½ hearts too. Previously I've abused Din's Fire against him, by backing him into a corner so he can't dodge. This time I got to the door and realised I hadn't gotten the magic upgrade, hadn't got any green potions, and didn't even have full magic power because I'd used Farore's Wind. So I just went ahead and had a go anyway, and managed an epic sword duel. I still want to know how he does that annoying jump-on-your-sword-and-stab-you trick though...

I have, at long last, collected all Poe souls, collected all heart pieces, collected all golden bugs and defeated the Cave of Ordeals in Twilight Princess. And I found all the bugs and probably all the heart pieces without a guide. I will admit that I used a guide for a dozen or so Poe souls, but I can't be bothered to wait for night every time.

That fight with the three Darknuts is, I think, the hardest one in the entire game and also in some ways the most enjoyable. You cannot just take wild swings and hope you connect, because Darknut 1 will block, Darknut 2 will hammer you from in front and Darknut 3 will hammer you from behind. You have to actually concentrate and work at it to win against them, which makes it all the more satisfying when the last one finally goes down. It's quite demanding physically as well thanks to the Wii's control system. I wonder how many calories that battle was worth?
