How to do evilness to the CPU, PCI bus, IDE controller and disks:

XCOPY C:\Backup\C "H:\Recovered from dead drive" /S /E /C /I /H /R /K /O /X /-Y
where C:\Backup\C contains about 20 gigs worth of files, and both that folder and the H: drive have NTFS compression (that folder because it's rarely-used and compression makes sense, H: because it's just under 20GB in size - the compression takes it down to ~14GB which is pretty decent).
