Last weekend broke the record for the hottest day in October, though locally it only reached 26°C or so.

Today, it's actually chilly enough that I've switched the heating on. The local weather stations on Weather Underground vary a bit, but generally agree on a temperature drop of 9-10°C since last Sunday. Ah well, that's the great British weather for you!

It happens here, too. It was pretty mild until September 15, then it seemed someone turned on the "cool" switch; 20ºF drop in a day. October 1 hit and it got even colder. Now it barely gets out of the 60s (teens C). Wish it would warm up in spring as quickly as it cools off in autumn!

I think that our high on Thursday was ~16C; today, it's 28C. I don't think British weather is the only kind with the wild variabiligy here :)
