Completed Occarina of Time this morning. Gannondorf (and, for that matter, Ganon) seemed a lot easier than I was expecting. If you want an evil boss/mini-boss go and fight Dark Link, who's a right pain unless you know the trick (Din's fire) to dealing with him.

The ending made me think a bit. Basically, you've been through a grand total of 10 dungeons, you've defeated and helped to seal away the king of evil, and then you go back seven years and forget all about it, with no-one knowing what's happened. You've saved a country, yet you haven't because it now doesn't need saving and all the battles you fought you will never fight because they're in the future, seven years from now. (if you've never played OoT then you're probably hopelessly lost by now. Let's just say Occarina of Time).

It's a bit like Riven, in a way. In that one you beat the game, and save the people of the world by destroying their world. But weren't you trying to save it?

I do like it when the ending is more than a "You have defeated the Zorkans! Well done!" and then the credits. It shows just how much work has been put into the story behind the game.

Indeed, on whatever scale it is that I grade role-playing games, or any game for that matter, the satisfaction of a good ending is a rather large chunk of the score. There are few things more frustrating in the gaming world than spending 40 hours beating a game to get...credits! Yeah, I don't so much care who made the game, I wanna know what happened after I blew up Enemy X and saved Girl Y and fulfilled Prophecy Z. I'll actually decide in retrospect sometimes that a game really wasn't all that good if its ending pisses me off.

I think one of the best game endings is in The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask, mainly becuase after beating the game, you may think you're finished, but if you got enough of the items you get to come back with something really cool and powerful and screw around fighting all the old bosses.

In my opinion, the key to beating dark link is through mutual attack. Since he mimics your moves, you can both get hit, but he doesn't have 12 hearts and three bottled fairies to revive him.

I Agree

I totally agree with you! I loved OoT, but the ending was just, not what I expected, cause I mean in the end they are all celebrating by a bonfire, but they all just forget about it. So it's basically DUMB! They had to take a magnificent game and ruin it! How dare they!
