It's not just limited to Zelda games - my sister uses the same approach for pretty much any game. Case in point is Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles where she picked the Lilty race - these being small hobbit-sized characters wielding frankly enormous halberds and with the strongest attack stat out of all the races.

On shouting at dragons in Skyrim...

boggyb: Dragons? Surely they just glare at you and then eat you?
elemnar: Well, yes, they glare at you once they're on the ground but by then you've usually switched to a better weapon...
