Aren't power cuts fun?

According to the rumor mill, something went pop in Essex House substation (there's a few around campus) and took out a fair chunk, including Bramber house and most (but not all) of Park Village. And that one lasted 3 hours, from 11:26 to about 2:30.

Fun.

Edit: details confirmed, see http://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/news/#epower20041201 for info. The power cut took out Arts B, E, Essex House, Bramber House, and of course Park Village. As a results, this killed the network in parts of Arts and York House (since York's network is fed from Bramber). Odds on a repeat later this week?

On another note, I did succeed in my quest to purchase a copy of MP2E, but upon gazing in wonder at the box I discovered that it is PAL60 *only*. Which is not overly useful as my computer doesn't like PAL60. Oh well. Maybe the media studies people will have some way of turning that into either straight NTSC or straight PAL. Heck, I can capture in SECAM too, but not PAL60.

From keysurf (behind login so no direct link):

Service Status
Following this mornings server upgrade, all services are running as normal. Thank you for your patience earlier.

This message has stayed the same since a major outage (which I think involved their db servers rebelling) which lasted a day or two. This outage occured a month or so ago.

A more accurate message would be "All services are running as normal, after power was restored to the campus."
