The mage

There are two main ways this can go. You get to decide.

The elements raged around the tower, howling amongst the battlements. The spire was lost in the clouds, the tower stretching upwards.

Behind the glass walls at the top of the tower, the mage stood, watching the rain. Lightning arced to the peak, sending charges corruscating along the length of the tower.

The mage watched impassively, his face lit by flashes of lightning.

The storm was at his bidding. With but a thought, he could banish it to the far corners of the land.

Well, that was fun.

The power just went for a few minutes here. And, since I was using my computer at the time, I kinda noticed it. Nothing like a computer going >click< WHEEEEEeeeeeeee to start your day. At least I'm running Win2k with NTFS drives - the results with Win98 would not have been pleasant.

Not sure how big the failure was, but it certainly took out a chunk of Park Village, and whatever part of Keycom that serves the area. Possibly a larger area of the campus, as the uni's web and mail servers appear to be down. Fun.

I knew getting out of bed today was a mistake.

You know the power cut earlier? Apparently, it hit the whole campus, and there were two of 'em. So, the computer systems are up the creek without a paddle, or indeed any kind of movement device. The main systems appear to be behaving, except for the fact that all the kiosks and PABS (printer-credit machines) boxes are dead. The roaming/wireless is playing up. The informatics servers died and won't be doing anything until the informatics people get in (probably on monday). And that rather screwed up my plans for today, which involved heading down to the informatics lab and doing some programming while the laptop trundled through all the updates to Win98 since august.

In addition to that, further casulities include the fire alarm in Park Village 16, and apparently all the electricity meters in Lewes Court reset themselves, which'll be fun come bill-payment day.
