Jan. 4th, 2014 02:42 pmBack in ye olden days, the way to run a shop was to fill it floor to ceiling with actual things that you were selling. In the unlikely case that a customer was after something not on display, then it was probably in one of many, many drawers and cupboards behind the counter.
Nowadays apparently the way to run a shop is to fill the shelves with hundreds of empty boxes of things that you do not actually have. When a customer actually wants to buy something, the shopkeeper then has to search this strange place known as "out back" (which usually involves extradimensonal space) to discover if the thing is actually in stock or not. Oh, and since the shelves are full of a hundred empty boxes of the same thing, "out back" contains a lot of things that aren't on display at all.
This brought to you by GAME displaying dozens of boxes of A Link Between Worlds despite not having a single copy of the actual game itself, while having several copies of both Professor Layton 3DS games despite not having either of them on display. And now today Staples is proudly displaying an empty box for a ADSL router that they don't actually have (and at a more expensive price than their own website, which they will price-match against only if you tell them about it).
