Nov. 5th, 2013

I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] talismancer will complain about my usual 5th of November semi-filler, though he will have to make a special post to do so. Unless tomorrow's pre-written post already contains pre-written snark... surely you've not planned that far ahead, have you?

It's rather interesting the various bits and pieces of British tradition that resulted from Guy Fawkes' attempt all those years ago. As well as tonight, another tradition that appeared is the (mostly) ceremonial searching of the cellars at Westminster as part of the State Opening of Parliament to prevent a modern-day re-enaction of the plot. It's a little reminder, along with taking a MP hostage (to ensure the Queen's safe return) of the less peaceful bits of British history.

One tradition that does seem to have disappeared is "penny for the guy" - I think the last time I saw this was years and years ago in Broadbridge Heath. Though I expect Lewes is still following this tradition with whatever likenesses they intend to burninate this year (politicans are always a popular one for them).

Posted today because otherwise [livejournal.com profile] talismancer will snark about today's filler. Let's see who can achieve more posts, shall we?

Spoilers for temple 1 and 2 (has anyone on my flist not gotten this far?) )
