After many years of trusty service from my Windows 2000 install, I have finally given in and bought Windows XP for Achilles.

Hello, dark side. Where are those cookies you promised?

Oh, I stopped liking Win2000 as soon as I tried XP. The mouse acceleration just doesn't click with me, and I hate the way you can't hold down Backspace to get to the desktop from a deeply-nested folder on slow machines; you need to press it after each Backspace operation has completed.

And other than UI, the kernels are very similar, so unless you have Server / Advanced server, you aren't really losing any functionality, are you?

But... You paid, as in real money? :-)

I can't help but ask why.... why on earth would you buy a copy of XP now.... Why not save and move to vista? Yes, it will require you to spend more and it will require more from your machine, but really, XP as well it works, it's getting a bit old now.

there are loads of good reason to goto Vista, like many people you havnt really gone and looked for them, and the press have only really focused on security and graphics...
