(no subject)

Is it wrong of me to expect packets to actually get from my computer to wherever and back again? Or is keysurf just on the fritz again?

In this case, I think I was expecting a news server, a web server, and two different IM servers to respond. According to the little icon in the systray, packets were going out happily but not coming back. This is dialup (with a RealModem™), so either the other modem got bored and dropped the carrier (making my one retrain a couple of times before giving up), or keysurf's internal network was acting up. Then again, a traceroute out shows packets going through a keysurf router, then one at the university (or at least in the university's ipblock), then 1.1.1.1, *then* on out to the internet.
