It's amazing, and somewhat worrying, how deeply one can get ingrained in the routine of others.
Take a phonecall just now. It was from someone at BT asking if we wanted to be in the phonebook. Now, as one of my housemates ordered the line I said that I didn't know what his preference would be, thinking to ask him when he got back from work. Not a minute later, sitting at my desk, I hear the ceiling above me creak and remember that he isn't at work today.
